Selection process

The Green Card Lottery selection process begins with registration in the lottery. Applicants must meet the eligibility requirements and submit their entry form. Entries are numbered and drawn at random. Selected winners are contacted, and they must pass a background check and medical exam before being approved for a Green Card. Finally, the winners will be officially granted permanent residency.

How high are the chances of being selected

Every region in the world receives a certain number of Green Cards.
The chances of winning a Green Card can vary from year to year and will depend on the number available visas in your country of origin.
If your application was filled out correctly, the average chance of winning a Green Card is between 1% and 7% .

Can I increase my chance of being selected in the DV Lottery ?

As a married couple you can both apply and double your chances of being selected since the spouse of a Green Card holder also receives a Green Card.
The best way to increase your chances of success is to have all eligible family members register for the DV-program.
